| Feeding & Health Care Management of Kaavan The elephant |
Kaavan is Asian Elephant and he was gifted by a Sirilankan government to Pakistani dictator general zia ul haq in 90's. and his date of birth is in March 1984, and later in 1985 March he was shifted in to the murghazar zoo Islamabad in the area of margalla national park, at that time it was decided to built a master plan of a zoo but it was not executed at that time till now 2016.
According to member admin CDA: Amir ali Ahmed ''That i accept that this murghazar zoo is in pathetic condition, and the condition of animals in this zoo is bad'' and he also accepted that this zoo is disposable and we also have a master plan of murghazar zoo in documents since 90's.
origin of kaavan the elephant is from sirilanaka.
In Zoo on CDA's payroll there are two workers working as a duty of mahawat means care taker who look after the elephant, their name is Bilal and Jalal.
Bilal is a head mahawat and jalal is assistant to head mahawat. both are brothers and this is their family legacy working as a mahwat, this is their family work from centuries.
Feeding on daily basis consist of this menu.
SUGAR CANE = 200 Kg
GREEN FOODER = 50 Kg
Fruits = 20 Kg
Vegetable = 20 Kg
Bread 10 Kg

Kaavan now needs to be sent to a sanctuary as he has spent a lifetime in this zoo & is now showing SEVERE signs of physical & mental disorders. He weaves his head constantly which is a sign of distress yet the zoo will not let him go to a sanctuary to let him live out how many years he has left. He has no grass beneath his feet, no water or mud to roll about in & most of all he has no other elephant to socialise with, which is such an important part of an elephants life to be able to roam about with each other, this is how elephants function. They are highly intelligent and need stimulation in their life NOT a life of misery on their own on concrete housing. Zoo promised NOT to chain Kaavan but haven't kept their promise which is more than disappointing, this poor Ellie really needs help to go to a sanctuary as he is so tormented being chained all day long.
